Kiln Control Box Wiring

Wiring diagram, step-by-step instructions and a connection checklist for the Fuji PXR3 and relay control box on Glass Hive lampworking kilns.

Wiring diagram

Blue = control box wire. Brown = element lead. A dot means the wires are joined at that point. Tap the diagram to view it full size.

Wiring steps

1. Unplug the kiln and open the control box.
2. Thermocouple: RED to Fuji 2, YELLOW to Fuji 3. Polarity matters: reversed leads make the reading go the wrong way.
3. Jumper: connect Fuji 5 to Fuji 8.
4. Controller to switch: Fuji 8 to switch bottom left, Fuji 9 to switch bottom right.
5. Controller to relay: Fuji 4 to the relay's top right terminal ("Fuji 4"). Switch bottom right to the relay's bottom right terminal ("switch").
6. Power cord: WHITE to switch top right and relay top middle ("line in"). BLACK to switch top left and relay bottom middle ("line in"). GREEN to the box ground.
7. Element: one lead to relay top left, the other to relay bottom left (both marked "element").
8. Leave Fuji 1, 6 and 7 empty.
9. Tug each wire to make sure it's tight, then tick it off in the checklist.

First power-up

• Check every connection against the table before plugging in.
• Plug in and flip the toggle switch on. The Fuji should light up and show about room temperature.
• If the temperature reading goes down as the kiln heats, the thermocouple leads are swapped: unplug and swap RED and YELLOW.
• Run an autotune before the first firing (see the Fuji PXR3 Controller Guide).
